Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A) is becoming increasingly popular worldwide, and is expected to become more widespread in Japan in the future. Biopsy is an invasive technique for the embryo and must be performed with extreme caution as it may affect the outcome of PGT-A and/or embryo viability. The usefulness of biopsy targets such as polar bodies, blastomeres, and trophectoderm (TE) has been reported, and TE biopsies are currently the mainstream. TE biopsy requires many steps to master, including prebiopsy preparation, opening of the zona pellucida of the blastocyst, excision of TE cells, and tubing, and technicians must be well trained.
